The Jaguar XJ is a flagship luxury car that does not fit into the stereotyped picture, and there are reasons for this. With its low-slung style, it gives the impression of being introverted. Its tastefully designed and exquisitely built rooms elicit admiration from all. Even the most heinous critics have a hard time finding something wrong with a Jaguar.
We drove the V6-powered 3.0-L diesel version a few months ago, and it showed us that a limousine is not a car to doze off in, but rather one to be driven with the most enthusiasm imaginable. This time, we’ve opted to restrain our horses in order to present a more mature and nuanced product.
Higher performance and stats aren’t a big deal if you’re ferried around. All you need is a surreal cocoon of luxury pampering you to your heart’s content, Jaguar XJ and that’s all there is to it.
Exterior Appearance of Jaguar XJ
The Jaguar XJ appears to have been conceived by an emotional approach rather than being drawn on a sheet. It is by far the most attractive luxury liner, with a classic elegance. Position yourself wherever around it to appreciate the flowing flow of dynamic lines and sculpted shapes.
The arrival of an Jaguar XJ is marked by the chrome treated cross mesh of a radiator grille with the red insert screaming emblem. Instead of standard fog lights, it sports a sleek LED strip running beneath the sweeping back headlamps. The temple, which is located high above the grille, is the source of a strong rib that flows towards the windshield, giving a good indication of the vehicle’s power.
Its enormous presence, wrapped in a lunar hue of Polaris White, produces a significant impression on spectators. In fact, the number of heads that Jags turn attracts attention unlike any other vehicle. This model comes equipped with 19-inch TOBA alloy wheels. The sleek roof, which has been intended to slice air with the least amount of resistance possible, appears to be just inches away from the shoulder line.
The super slanting C-pillar, which appears to be a continuation of the sloping roof line, keeps things intriguing on the rear face. It all comes together with the Jaguar XJ tail lamps, which have become synonymous with the car’s individuality. The rear bumper has a light chrome strip with nicely concealed exhaust pipes underneath.
Driven by Results
Anyone who dislikes the way Jaguars ride and handle should have their hands and feet thoroughly tested for numbness. We were very impressed with the 3.0-litre V6 in our previous evaluation, notably with its dynamic performance, which outclassed most in its sector.
While the above is a driver’s dream, the chauffeured class does not require it. In fact, this segment of the market would want something a little more subtle and polished, which is where the Jaguar XJ 2.0-litre petrol comes in. The i4 turbocharged petrol engine produces a strong 237 horsepower and 340Nm of torque, so don’t dismiss it based on its displacement alone. In addition, the transition from standstill to blur takes only 7.5 seconds.
In terms of low-range refinement and rapidity, the smaller displacement four-cylinder petrol engine outperforms the larger 3.0-litre. When compared to a similar setup, there is a lot of responsiveness towards the beginning of the rev range. It takes some time for the motor to get momentum, after which it becomes exceedingly quiet with a pleasant purr.
When the ignition is turned on, the super completed Jaguar Drive Selector rises to reach the driver’s hand, it almost appears like an orchestra. With a simple twist, it switches to D-mode, which takes care of everything on its own. If you’re in a hurry, press it down and twist on the right to engage Sport mode. A small chequered flag button is located directly behind the shifter knob, and when pressed, it activates the dynamic mode by causing a red highlight to appear around the cluster.
The Dynamic mode modifies the acceleration pattern and tightens the suspension, making it ideal for fast driving. The XJ’s handling performance is largely due to its adaptive dynamic control system, which analyses steering, speed, and body movements 500 times per second and adjusts the suspension to match the reaction.
Another feature that helps the Jaguar XJ handle so well is its general form. Air flow is channelled through the flowing contours and streamline roof, decreasing resistance stress. This makes it much easier to reach high speeds. The Jaguar XJ is just outstanding in turns, holding on to the asphalt with tremendous confidence thanks to Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), which ensures maximum traction in difficult situations.
The XJ knows how to steer quickly, change directions, and even push it for a rapid manoeuvre. It also handles better than most of its German rivals. The suspension system achieves the ideal blend of comfort and agility. It absorbs uneven surfaces while preventing the ride from becoming wet.
The Jaguar XJ is the sole automobile with such a little petrol engine, while competitors such as the BMW 7-Series and Audi A8 L have more powerful engines. For the sake of simplicity, this is not a drawback for the Jag. They have a powerful V6 for self-driving cars, although chauffeured cars, which are a small percentage of the market, might opt for gasoline because of its advantages.
Interestingly, the BMW and Audi are available for Rs 1.46 and 1.38 crores, respectively, while the Jaguar XJ is available for Rs 95.97 lakhs, which is also Rs 50 lakhs cheaper than the New Mercedes-Benz S-Class; enough of a difference to acquire a hot hatch. Despite the fact that the price does not exceed a crore, it has enough panache, charm, and appeal to set it apart from the competition.
All we can say is that if you want to make a grand entrance, a Jag is the way to go.
